Four months after Mike and Heather Martin lost custody of their children, BuzzFeed reports the DaddyOFive YouTubers have been sentenced to five years of probation for child neglect.
After the video of the Martins pranking and cursing at some of his five children to the point of tears went viral (the video was called «INVISIBLE INK PRANK ( EPIC FREAKOUT )),» Rose Hall, the children’s biological mother was granted emergency custody of Cody and Emma, the kids who were made to cry in the video.
Per BuzzFeed, both the Martins and the children underwent psychological evaluation in the video’s aftermath, and it was found Cody and Emma in particular suffered «mental injury» as a direct result of the prank.
The terms of their probation include not being able to contact Cody and Emma while they’re in their mother’s custody as well as not posting videos featuring either of the two children unless a judge decides otherwise.
The Martins’ defense attorney Stephen Tully told WTOP his clients were relieved by the sentencing because they didn’t want to put the children through a trial: “We’re in a new era with social media. They have to learn the things that are appropriate and not appropriate, particularly with children.”
